Spark is more than just a dating app. It was created to help people find real connections in a world of endless swipes and shallow matches.

Spark emerged to solve a clear problem: dating apps were becoming transactional, leaving users feeling unseen and drained. Our goal was to bring back the excitement and emotional connection that dating should evoke.

I led the brand strategy, UX, and UI design to craft an experience that feels personal and empowering—from onboarding to first messages—making Spark a space where users feel comfortable being themselves.

Project Overview

Create an app experience that feels warm, human, and safe. Reduce user anxiety through thoughtful flows and microinteractions. Encourage genuine conversations over superficial matches. Position Spark as the dating app people trust for real relationships.

Designing for Human Connection

We designed Spark with empathy, focusing on real user emotions—excitement, vulnerability, and hope.

Through in-depth user interviews and emotion mapping, we uncovered key anxieties in online dating: fear of safety, fear of rejection, and fear of wasting time. Our solution was a product that felt honest, respectful, and encouraging at every touchpoint.

Process

Our process included emotional journey mapping, persona development, rapid prototyping, brand identity design, microcopy crafting, and continuous user validation.

We iterated onboarding flows to reduce overwhelm, integrated real-time safety verifications to build trust, and refined microinteractions to celebrate small moments—like profile completions and first messages—to make the experience feel rewarding.

Design should remind people that technology can still feel human.

Design brand visuals that feel warm, inclusive, and real.

The final product featured a warm, inviting interface with muted pinks and bold typography, clear CTAs for confidence, profile prompts to inspire authenticity, verified badges for safety assurance, and conversational icebreakers to reduce first-message anxiety.

Spark is now a dating app that people describe as “safe,” “comforting,” and “hopeful.” It brings back the excitement of meeting someone new—without the fear of being just another swipe.
